This beautiful 20,000 square foot hillside home has a wonderful mix of refined sophistication and comfort. The home truly signifies the California lifestyle. The objective was to design an Italianate Villa, which translates the idea into contemporary California terms, creating a home fit for modern-day West Coast living.
The ambience created by the custom-designed molding and hardware throughout emphasizes the old world feel and charm found in Italy. The public rooms are integrated by the openwork balcony between the two floors. The foyer is an airy, open space with honey-tinted walls of Venetian plaster, glossed to a luminous sheen. The entrance hall was given special treatment with custom lacquered molding with a luster finish giving character and scale to the full height space.
The warm color scheme, consisting of tawny shades of ivory, cream, sage, and brown, compliments the owner’s collection of art. The client wanted to balance the grand exterior with a warm and casual family-oriented decor. Hand scraped wood floors give the feeling of warmth and age. Custom designed and hand carved stone fireplaces throughout, with their aged patina, add character and charm to any sitting.
The owner entertains frequently, so the house is designed for graciousness and hospitality, whether the gathering is for family and friends or a philanthropic event.
Particular attention to ceiling details, like special coffers in the dining room and master bedroom, create grand scale while providing intimate spaces. Motorized silk draperies in the master and living room with balustrade terraces provide splendid panoramic views. Delicate silk florals are used for the draperies to hang over the onyx tub surround in the master bathroom at the bay windows.
